I picked up a dual action polisher adapter for my cordless drill (Meguiars) and some compound and polishing pads for it. The problem I was having was the paint was foggy and dull. So I needed to Polish it out to get a better finish on it. I think it came out pretty decent and is rather improved. Still not perfect but I think a better compound, a dedicated Polish, and some more time spent on it and then it will be finished. Also tried messing with my plate relocation kit but it still needs adjustment to get it perfect.

I don’t have a really good “before” picture but I think the improvement is still obvious here:

Some Meguiars 105/205 and a microfiber cutting pad will do wonders on that.

Were you getting color transfer?

What is color transfer?

After seeing some tutorials on that stuff, it looks exactly like what I need. Any suggestions on a cutting pad to use?

I use this one to cut, and an uber foam finishing pad for the polish. This combo works great for almost any scenario, and when used with a DA you can’t really mess up.

Was there color(paint)coming off onto the pad? It looks like there is no clear coat left to me, meaning you won’t be able to polish it any better than that since it should be a two stage paint, not one on a car of that age

Nope, no paint color coming off onto the pad. I used a clear coat, but honestly I am unsure if it was a very good clear coat. I plan to try out the Meguiars M105 and M205 (should arrive Wednesday). The difference so far really is night and day though. I have gotten rid of the majority of the fogginess, and it actually shines a little. So with a better compound and polish, I think it may get much closer to complete.

Cool. Good luck then! 105 can be tricky to use and I’ve heard of some pretty severe dusting from it(you’ll need to wash the car again if you get dust all over the place)

Check out some AMMO NYC and AutoGeek videos on paint correction first, it'll help a lot!

I will practice on some old parts first to get the technique down. Those videos are quite helpful also, I will be reviewing more for sure. I figure the 105/205 combo should be rather effective though once I get it figured out. If it goes well, I am definitely gonna do the whole car with that stuff in the spring.
